Hey, hi! Glad you stopped by ๐
The Battle Of The Bands (BOTB) is your basic Which-do-you-like-best contest where the one that gets the most votes wins. All you have to do is show up (the 1st of every month) give a listen and cast your vote in the comment section. Votes will be tallied and the winner revealed on or about the 8th day of the month.
In case you’re curious, this is what prompted my “Winter Daze” theme song for this battle:

So, there you have it, Folks. Which do you like best? After you vote, and before you go – I highly recommend visiting the rest of the BOTB participants โ theyโre pros! And a few of them hold two battles a month! Hereโs where to find them:
STMcC โ Presents Battle of the Bands
Arlee โ Tossing it Out
Cathy โ Curious as a Cathy
John โ The Sound of One Hand Typing
Mike โ Mikeโs Ramblings
Mary โ www.jinglejanglejungle.net
Debbie โ The Dogladyโs Den
It just wouldnโt be right without a nod to the Mamas and the Papas (Cheers!) Has anyone seen the โSan Andreasโ movie?
Diedre,
The first cover was a bit of snooze for me. Almost made me want to throw myself off a bridge but that’s not gonna happen since i like me so much. Thankfully the second cover had more pep. The young musicians of Shut Up and Kiss Me are very talented. They get my vote hands down, no second thoughts about ti. Great discovery! I didn’t realize until I noticed your tags the first cover artist is Sia.
My BOTB is up anytime you want to stop by to vote. ๐ Have a bandtastic day!

Thanks for weighing in, Cathy ๐ I hadn’t heard either version and as determined as I was to use this song was glad to find any (unheard) covers.

I’ve had battles like yours where I was just happy to find covers that worked. I might have not been crazy about the artists/bands but it worked. ๐

Hi diedre, what a surprise to see snow in your area! Does that happen often?
This is a tough battle as I enjoyed both covers and had to listen a few times. In the end, the guitar riffs by Shut Up And Kiss Me won me over.
P.S. Thanks for adding a link to my site, but I haven’t written a BOTB post since 2020. I still like to vote on others’ battle though.

Hi Debbie!
Snow isn’t that uncommon at the summer house, but that was just too much for this desert rat! I stayed in the slightly warmer desert while the boys went skiing and did a lot of shoveling ๐
The guitar riffs – YES! Trust you to appreciate that ๐ I’m glad you came by.
Yes, but you did say you might join up again one day. So I’m saving your place!

Thanks! ๐ I might rejoin one of these days, possibly using a different blog site.

I think I’m gonna vote for the one in the brown sweatshirt. Where do I sign up?
Huh? Whaddaya mean that’s not how this works?!
Oh, OK…
So, I just came from CAThy’s BOTB installment, and I can’t help thinking that this first rendition almost has a kind of ‘James Bond’ theme flair to it. I’ve never heard of that movie, ‘San Andreas’, but I’m pretty sure that eventually it’s going to become a documentary.
The first version was a bit too James Bond-ish dramatic for me. I liked the second one quite a bit more better. I was also heartened to see young people digging a great old old people’s song. I’ve always loved ‘California Dreamin” — both the song and the reminiscing. (Ever heard The Beach Boys’ rendition? I like it even better’n The Mamas & The Papas original.)
I can completely relate to the weather situation. This has been the most rottenest Winter since I moved to this general area in 2015. Yesterday, we hit a low of negative-2.5, and that’s the coldest temperature this “Dogtown” boy has ever felt. And as I type these woids, it’s a toasty 13.5 degrees outside. Suddenly, Phoenix doesn’t seem quite so hellish anymore.

Hi Stephen T.!
The song is one of my favorites as well, though perhaps a little more so this year. I guess we won’t have to worry much about summer fires this year…
Old people’s song? It’s vintage, my friend. Just like us ๐ Not sure I’ve actually heard a Beach Boys version, but I’ll make a point to do so. Thanks for the tip and for casting a vote!
Wishing warmer days your way.

Iโve had this song queued up for a Battle for quite some time but never got around to using it. I was inspired to use it after watching that San Andreas movie and decided to use that version against something else I had yet to determine.
Between these two Iโm going with that second version that sometimes sounds like itโs going to revive Shocking Pinkโs โIโm Your Venusโ. The movie version was a bit clattery for my taste. The second version seemed more true to the original intent of the song. Give my vote to Shut Up etc.
Iโve seen โSan Andreasโ and enjoyed it. My wife and I are always on board for any earthquake movie even though we live with the threat of the real thing. AS one who lives in CA I can assure you that the only CA dream I have these days is leaving the state. Now to get my wife to agree to that (which I donโt see happening any time soon). Maybe it will take the Big One to chase us away.

Hi Lee!
Shocking Pink…that’s it! I knew there was something familiar about it. A vote for Shut Up etc. Thanks!
As interested as I was in the history of the 1906 quake, I can’t believe I didn’t beat feet to see ‘San Andreas”.
I hate to think of anyone feeling forced to move for any reason, though some reasons are quite compelling. May there be far better days ahead than any we leave behind ~ roughly C.S. Lewis

Excellent Battle, Diedre!
I’m going to vote for Shut up and Kiss Me. The winter has hit hard and their cheerier version helps one get through the day.

Oh my God! This is a tough battle!! I really like both because they are so different. I will go with the first one because it’s different and I like her raw voice. Yes, snow…I actually wish we had more. I know, I’m strange but it’s a balmy -7C here. Sunny and nice…yeah..I know, what is wrong with me:)

Hi Birgit!
I thought the same thing! Not about the snow, though ๐ A vote for Sia – thank you!
Nothing wrong with enjoying snow, my dear. Someone’s got to build the snowmen who fall from heaven unassembled ๐ Now, I do enjoy a crackling fire…
Happy days!

Hands down, Shut Up& Kiss Me wins this one. I didn’t like the first part, and thought “If this sounds like this all the way through…” Then they swung into what sounded like the opening chords of “Venus” and I was “whoa!” The two guitar solos were excellent and the three lead singers were excellent.

My brother, Judge Al Bondigas, is submitting a vote for Shut Up& Kiss Me.
He doesn’t have any clever commentary to go along with his vote (it’s just a simple, basic vote), because he possesses no personality whatsoever. He bought a personality once, at a Salvation Army thrift store, but it didn’t fit him quite right, so he returned it and got his .27 cents back.

Haha! Simple basic vote accepted. Thank him for me, please? And I’m glad he got his money back ๐ I tried to return a pair of clown pants I found stashed in a drawer of a small side table I’d purchased for a house I was staging. They refused since I had no receipt ๐ A homeless guy I passed down the road was happy to have them – along with some spare change. Life in the weird, wild west.

Definitely liked Shut Up and Kiss Me better. Those kids have talent, and ya gotta love the string bass. The first one sounded a little whiny, which seems to be trendy in music right now but which usually annoys me.
