It’s a safe bet we’ve all heard at least one song written, maybe even performed, by Australian-born Sia, but you won’t likely see the shy songbird in concert because she often sings behind the curtains while her dancers take the stage and bring her songs to life. Meanwhile, from the same US coast (at about the same time) that inspired the Mamas & Papas, The Beach Boys formed arguably the only band capable of withstanding the British invasion of The Beatles. While staying viable was by no means easy, they still managed to add a few cover tracks to their ever-growing list of hits. For your listening pleasure (and because Stephen brought it to my attention) here’s The Beach Boys:

Sia is extremely talented! Too bad she’s so shy, but I like her black and white wigs. 🙂 Still, I’m a sucker for guitar riffs, which is why Shut Up And Kiss Me won it for me. The Beach Boys’ version is good too!

The use of wigs and masks add to Sia’s inadvertent mystique, I think. She does have a powerful voice. I liked Shut Up, etc., and have to agree the guitar riff was really something 😉

It was a good Battle, but to me there was a clear winner. Looks like I’m not the only one who thought so. An outcome that was as it should have been.

Your outcome was about as lopsided as mine. In fact, mine was even slightly more so. BUT!… you represented one of the three votes on YOUR Battle as well as representing one of the three votes on MY Battle.
Yes, this is the Beach Boys rendition of ‘California Dreamin” that I like so well. As much as I love The Boys, I never could have dreamed I’d hear a version of this song that I even preferred to the M&P’s original hit. But the first time I heard this, I immediately loved that stormy sax solo as well as the echo on the voices and the thunderous sound effects. I thought: Wow! My Boys beat the M&Ps on their own hit! (But, of course, that’s just one dude’s opinion.)

I had no idea there were that many band members! The sax solo added a raw urgency; like hurrying home before the storm hits. A very nice rendition 😉
